Pillow Talk: Florals

Classy Clutter

Perhaps I have had a little downtime lately, or maybe its the fact that SPRING is coming, but today I want to talk pillows. But lets narrow it down a little and talk about floral pillows. And guys, don’t worry, for you, we can even refer to them as botanical prints once in a while, now avert your eyes for a quick second (ladies this is a little trick I use at the sofa shop,┬áso as not to alienate the manly men who become less than cooperative when it comes to flowers). Alright, back to business! Pillows!

Want an easy way to add a little refreshment to your home? You guessed it, pillows. Toss pillows can give you a whole new take on your living room decor, and its not going to cost you much. And its super fun to inject a little colour and whimsy either with what you already have or when starting fresh.

Be Book Bound

My absolute favourite part of my job at the sofa shop is fabric, its no secret, I am a little obsessed, and for good reason. There are literally endless combinations to choose from and it makes me happy, so very happy. Whether my clients opt for a neutral sofa and a pop of pillow colour or a bold sofa and more textured pillows I have come across a few combinations that I think really work to tie a whole room together.

Most of our vendors offer one choice for the pillow fabric, but my favourite company, a Canadian one, Decor Rest, often offers two choices. This really opens things up design wise. I usually suggest doing a solid colour paired with a bold print. Want to know something sad, some people choose the same pillow fabric as the body of their sofa, waaaaaah! Oh, what a waste! With these clients I suggest they source out bolder options to add to the pillow scape, and hope that they do so, because who doesn’t love pillows?

Dimples and Tangles

For a quick update a splashy, bold, modern floral pillow can be placed on a chair or a sofa either solo or introduced into an existing colour scheme. Florals, I mean botanicals, work well with solid hues or repetitive patterns like stripes, polka dots, chevrons, or geometric prints like Moroccan arabesque and the French quatrefoil.

I could go on and on about pillow choices, but today I will leave you with a few floral pillow images to keep that fresh spring feeling alive with one little botanical (coral) for good measure. So when it comes to pillows have fun and whatever you do, look beyond the colour of your sofa for inspiration!
