Beaded Chandeliers

Kim Gray

Currently, it is a beautiful April afternoon here in Edmonton. Sunny, windy, somewhat enchanting. Maybe its just me, but it feels like everything is about to burst. Burst with life, with excitement (wait, that’s definitely me) with new moments. I am so excited to share these beaded chandeliers with you. There is a company in South Africa called Hellooow, and they hand make some of the chandeliers pictured here. They even have an ombre one, but you can pick your style and the colour of the beads. How tantalizing is that? I want one, or three…

Many of the photos shown here even have the beaded beauties placed outside. With a whimsical combination of ceramic beads, wire, and embellishments like tassles and crystals, what’s not to love. I mean you had me at chandelier, right? We all know how much I love a good chandelier.

There are many different shapes to choose from depending on the space you are working with. Teardrop, French, Vignette and Elongated ones are all available to suit different areas. I imagine two cute little ones placed on either side of a bed instead of lamps. Or a bone coloured one for a beachy room.

I am so in love with the look of these. I can envision one in every room I walk in these last few days. Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room, entry way. No matter where you hang one the effect will be stunning! Where will you put yours?

Bathing in Beauty

I haven’t written about bathrooms in a little while and I think this is a fabulous way to revisit one of the most essential, high-traffic rooms in the home. These bathing beauties feature some of the most gorgeous bathtubs I have ever seen.

We begin and end our days, perform our ‘getting ready’ rituals and beautify ourselves all in the bathroom. In busy days time flutters by and our surroundings can blend together in the rush of mornings and the haze of bedtimes. So how do we slow down and savor our moments? Linger a bit? Pay closer attention?

One thing is for certain, with any one of these beautifully stylized bathrooms, slowing down would become a necessity right quick! You would begin to make excuses to take a bath! Gardening? Oh, my look at those dirty hands. Time for a bath! Oh, no, dirty again. I guess I’ll take a bath. It could go on like that for a while. An elegant bathroom with any one of these soaker bathtubs is a like a mini retreat. I love how designer Sara Richardson often refers to the bathroom as a jewelry box. As it tends to be a smaller space (not that you’d know that by the size of these lofty bathrooms) you can splurge on materials that offer some impact, translation: glamour.

To add a little glamour to your home without a full blown renovation, you could always update the accessories. New textiles can go a long way. Fresh flowers, fluffy white towels, a new shower curtain and pretty, glitzy, things like a new mirror or light fixtures can elevate the look of your bathroom and foster a new sense of mindfulness. And if you are able to make time for a bath, make it a luxe one! Light some candles and add some Epsom salts! Happy bathing, beauties!

Pale Blue Sofa Daydreams

Style at Home

Like a clear blue sky, these pale blue sofas add some unexpected cheer to the living rooms lucky enough to house them. Personally, I am on the brink of custom ordering a soft blue tufted sofa with silver nickel nailhead trim and I am so excited! I have had a mocha toned sectional for a few years now and can’t wait to introduce this light colour to the room.

I love the tufted goodness of these two blue sofas pictured in the bottom frames. Even in leather, how pretty! A little glamour, a little softness! The baby blue leather sofa is even curved. Now friends, it doesn’t get much better than that. My sofa has more linearity to it, once it gets to me I will post a picture for you all to see. Blue is my new neutral. Of course, I still love turquoise, always will, but blue is simply what I need to do at this point in time. Anyone with me on this?

So many accent colours will work with a colour like this, but to start with I will add white and slightly darker blues for a little moodiness.  I’m also thinking I need to order some leather chairs to balance the girliness of the fabric. I have a beautiful mid-range grey/brown leather picked out, but I have not yet committed to the chairs that go with it. We shall see. That is the beauty of working in a custom furniture store, there are new pieces arriving every single week!

Crown Decor Galore

Desire to Inspire

Well if you can’t wear a crown every day, you could always get your fix with crown inspired decor. Crowns are not just for the royals you know. So if you need to channel elegance and poise for your home check out these beauties. On this quiet, already snowy morning, crowns, a little background music and of course some strong coffee are in order. Sounds like a perfect day to me.

The thing about theme based artwork is that it introduces character to your home, plus, I love it. Crowns are my latest love, but give me chandeliers, bird cages, hot air balloons and other whimsical art and I’m a happy girl. In an already elegant space, the right art, and by right I mean whatever it is your heart desires, can set the tone. For me I like a little something dreamy or sweet.

The curvy lines and contrasts add a bold pop of interest to any wall or surface they adorn. Crowns can be introduced into your space in a number of ways. The first painting pictured here is my favourite, but a smaller scale in a line drawing or a sketch might be just the thing for your space. Textiles are ever fun to play with. Chairs, ottomans, pillows or curtains are a perfect non-committal way to play with pattern.

Or for a larger scale full on installation, how about wallpaper? The crown wallpaper pictured here would be perfect for a closet or a bathroom. Or if you wanted to glam up a little girls room thiis wallpaper can be adorned with gems. Simply glue coloured glass marbles (the flat ones) directly onto the crowns.

Also, if you happen to be a queen with a rather sizeable collection of priceless crowns, you could always display them in tall glass cabinets with glittery warm lighting. That’s what I would do. Just saying. There are options for everyone.
